The brethren and guests of Westhoughton Lodge of Amity No 7782 were honoured by the presence of Ian Higham representing the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison on the occasion of Arthur Price being installed into the chair of King Solomon.
This would be Arthur’s third term as master, the previous two being in the Province of East Lancashire. Ian was accompanied by fellow grand officer Steve Gregory, Chorley Group Secretary Don Hesketh and Chorley Group Treasurer Mike Silver, who had a very busy night doubling up as the lodge’s director of ceremonies, along with acting Provincial Grand Standard Bearer Stuart Wilson.
Jason Bond took the helm to open the lodge as the incumbent master Ken Ogg was sadly unable to attend due to illness. Dave Barber and Alex Prescott were appointed installing senior and junior wardens respectively and Brian Shuttleworth inner guard. Arthur was presented as master elect by Maurice Edge and was installed into the chair of King Solomon in a superb ceremony with Mike Silver conducting the inner workings.
The working tools of an installed master were impeccably presented by Alex Prescott, with the tools of the various degrees being presented in an equally impressive manner by Stuart Graves, John Weston and Zak Thornley.
The address to the master was delivered by Maurice Edge, that to the wardens by Gilbert Pierce and that to the brethren of the lodge by Ian Higham.
Ian brought greetings from the Provincial Grand Master and congratulated Arthur for once again attaining the chair of King Solomon. He congratulated the installation team on an excellent ceremony and complimented the work of director of ceremonies Mike Silver in bringing the evening together. A special mention was also made of the three junior brethren for a first class presentation of the working tools.
The festive board was a very friendly and convivial affair with good food, good wine and especially good company.
