The Provincial Bowling finals were held in glorious sunshine at the Tetley Social Club in Warrington.
The Group was represented by the winner and runner up of the Group Bowling knockout, Peter Schofield and Mike Silver.
Mike was beaten in the first round of the main competition but progressed through to the quarter finals of the second tournament before losing out narrowly by 15-13.
Peter on the other hand, was much more successful and progressed through to the final where he played Len Hart from the Leigh Group.
Peter had been involved in some very close matches on route to the final resulting in him spending a long time on the green in the baking heat with very little time to recover between matches. At the start of the final he had been in action almost continuously for the last 2 ½ hrs.
Despite this Peter started well, taking an early lead in a tightly fought contest watched very supportively by many of the unsuccessful participants.
The match was blessed with some unbelievable bowling skill and ability and with the score locked at 20-20 it all went down to the last leg.
Peter was on the mat and placed his first bowl just 18 inches behind the jack which looked certain to be the winner, only to see Len follow him up the green and rest his bowl inside Peter’s.
It was fitting that such a superb bowl should win the tournament and it was unlucky that Peter was on the receiving end.
He is still to be greatly congratulated on his marathon effort on a very hot and draining but enjoyable day and for representing the Chorley group so well.
The Provincial Grand Master had attended to congratulate everyone involved and to thank the Warrington Group for hosting such a wonderful event blessed with glorious weather.
