Peter's fourth time around in Wilderswood

At their first meeting after the summer break, the installation meeting of Wilderswood Lodge No 5932 saw Peter Schofield ascend to the chair of the lodge in a wonderful ceremony which was witnessed by the many  brethren and visitors present.

The evening’s principal guest was Paul Hesketh who was representing the Provincial Grand Master Tony Harrison.

Peter, who has been installed in the chair of this lodge on three previous occasions, was installed by his predecessor Martin Sim who conducted a most sincere ceremony which was ably directed by the director of ceremonies of the lodge John Parr.

During the ceremony the working tools were extremely well presented by the more junior members of the lodge, namely Gary Longthorne, David Caffrey and David Perfect (an entered apprentice of only six months), whilst the addresses to the newly installed master and the wardens were presented by the more seasoned campaigners of the lodge David Harrison and John Parr.

On concluding the ceremony, Paul Hesketh brought the greetings of the Provincial Grand Master and congratulated Peter on attaining the chair, along with all the brethren who had taken part in what he described as a very sincere ceremony and making special mention of the three brethren who presented the working tools and also of the director of ceremonies John Parr, who stepped down this year after seven years of tireless service in that office.

In response, Peter’s first pleasant duty was to present Paul Hesketh with a number of cheques for donations to the West Lancashire Freemasons’ Charity (£200) and the Masonic Charitable Foundation 2021 Festival (£650), and on receiving these Paul thanked the brethren of the lodge on behalf of the people who will ultimately benefit from them.

The brethren went on to enjoy the festive board at which all the guests took wine with the new WM, and in traditional style, the master’s song was sung by David Harrison.

The evening ended with the master of the lodge’s final pleasant duty, that of presenting Paul with a floral gift for him to pass on to his good lady.
