The meeting was well attended and amongst those attending was the present Group Chairman, Peter Locket, past Chairmen John Robson and Ken Shaw. Peter is also the President of Perfect Points and the Past President David Harrison was also present.

Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master Frank Wilkinson was also amongst the audience bringing with him a newly made Brother and a future initiate as his guests. Everyone was welcomed the meeting by Gary Smith, Chairman of Perfect Points.

Robin introduced the subject of his talk, the composer Mozart who was of course a Freemason having been initiated into a lodge in Vienna in the 1785.

He had started composing at the very young age of 14 years and following his entry into Freemasonry composed a total of seven Masonic musical pieces.

Robin projected images of the composer on the screen as well as playing pieces of music that Mozart had composed.

His most famous piece of ‘Masonic’ music is ‘The Magic Flute’. Robin treated the brethren to a section from the piece during which ‘knocks’ of great significance can be heard being played by the orchestra.

Robin concluded his talk by stating that after the 67th performance of The Magic Flute’ in 1791 Mozart sadly passed away.

He received a warm round of applause from the brethren following this most interesting talk and was thanked by Gary. The talk was followed by a tasty meat pie supper served up expertly by the catering team at Chorley Masonic Hall. The usual Perfect Points raffle took place and the prize of a bottle of whiskey was won by Allan Shields.

The next meeting of Perfect Points takes place on Friday 27th April when the renowned speaker Mark Olly will present a talk about the Knights Templars. Full details including how to book will be found on the Chorley Group website nearer the time of the meeting along with details of how to book and attend.
